Exploring Collaboration in Molecular Excited-State Science

Prof. Kim visited RIKEN to discuss future research collaboration with Associate Professor Miyabi Imai-Imada of the Department of Physics at the Institute of Science Tokyo, who concurrently serves as Team Leader of the Quantum Energy Conversion RIKEN ECL Research Team.
Prof. Imai’s research focuses on molecular electronic and excited states at the single-molecule and atomic scales, using advanced scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to investigate fundamental processes associated with light–matter interactions and energy conversion.
During the visit, Prof. Kim and Prof. Imai exchanged perspectives on molecular excited-state spectroscopy, single-molecule electronic structures, thermally activated delayed fluorescence, and organic optoelectronic materials.
The discussions highlighted the strong complementarity between Prof. Imai’s expertise in atomic-scale spectroscopy and MAXAM Lab’s research in molecular design, photophysics, computational chemistry, and OLED device physics.
They also explored potential collaborative directions that connect spatially resolved electronic and excited-state information with the photophysical and optoelectronic properties of organic molecules. Such an integrated approach may provide deeper insight into the fundamental mechanisms governing molecular energy conversion and light emission.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen scientific exchange and establish a foundation for future collaboration between MAXAM Lab and the Quantum Energy Conversion RIKEN ECL Research Team.
